Immigrants are an essential part of our communities: they are our neighbors and friends, and contribute significantly to our daily lives. They are the backbone of various industries, from agriculture to hospitality, and enrich our society with vibrant cultures and diverse lived experiences. Above all, they are a vital part of our community, and they belong in our neighborhoods.
Currently, immigrant community members are experiencing extreme stress and trauma. Many are facing persecution, unjust detention, job loss, and the fear of family separation. Kids are losing educational opportunities, and our local economy is losing both labor and purchasing power because folks are afraid to leave their homes to go to work, school, and shopping. Now, households are at risk of losing access to essential food assistance, which for many is the only way to feed their children.
The time is now to act in true solidarity with our vulnerable neighbors.
Guerreras Latinas, with other leaders in our immigrant community, is establishing an emergency fund to provide essential services such as food, clothing, emotional support, and rent assistance. In these times of fear and uncertainty, it is crucial to send a clear message of hope and unity, letting our immigrant communities know they are welcome, supported, and defended.
