How Centennial came together in July’s heat wave

July 4-9, Portland experienced extreme heat, with temperatures reaching over 100 degrees, and at least 17 people died across the state. How did CCRN* respond in the Centennial Neighborhood?

Read about the community response HERE.

Also…although we might not have too much more heat this summer, check out these options for staying cool when it is hot:

  • Cooling Centers hosted by Multnomah County. These are set up as hot weather approaches. More info at multco.us/help-when-its-hot.
  • Regal Cinemas. Thanks to Centennial Community Association, a limited number of FREE gift cards are still available that can be used for the Regal Unlimited pass (see all the movies you want + stay cool for $21.99 a month!). Please reach out to centennialcommunityassociation @ gmail.com if you’re interested in trying this out.

* Centennial Community Resilience Network (CCRN) was established in the fall of 2024, with the goal of establishing a resilience hub in the Centennial Neighborhood and to promote resilience initiatives and projects throughout the neighborhood. CCRN achieves this by collaborating and providing mutual assistance among organizations in the Centennial neighborhood to enhance resilience for community members. Day One Tech, Centennial Community Association (CCA), and Centennial NET all serve on the Executive Committee of CCRN.
